Our paths rarely crossed at Temple U, and for that I am sorry. I spent an unconventional senior year abroad, living and studying in Haifa. While in Israel, I made several excursions in the West Bank. Looking back, they were some of the most painful/incredible moments in my coming of age. I am currently living in New York, doing Rabbinical/Grad School, writing, performing, reaching etc. I would to love to dialogue and reflect with you at some point in the near future. Thank you for writing about Jerusalem and the Qalandiya checkpoint. What is zaatar? Also, I saw a youtube video once about a protest where Palestinians were holding the keys to their homes that they had been expelled from. Would you write more about the keys? I would like to see these keys myself when I go to Al Quds insh’Allah.

Your writing is very educational…I’ve learned a lot through this blog. If you could recommend one or two books that you believe are objective or accurate as to the creation of the state of Israel and what happened as a result to the Palestinians, that’d be great.

Israeli Jews and Arabs look very much alike, at least the secular members of both communities.

Your encounter on the bus reminds me of a scene from ‘Remember the Zohan’ between Israeli and Arab characters in NYC. Paraphrasing:

Arab: Everybody hates us.

Israeli Jew: No, they hate us too.

Arab: Why?

Israeli Jew: Because they think we are you.

I’m really interested to learn more about your experience there as many people have only been saying negative things…I’m also interested in learning about tatreez.
